Happy Friday | V16.39

Happy Friday | V16.39
Another week is coming to an end and I cannot say that I am mad seeing this one go. It's been a drag at work as it has been really quiet, not entirely sure why, but I am glad it's over. We have a 3-day-weekend ahead of us with a bank holiday on Monday, so to say I am thrilled would probably be an understatement.

Work-wise it's been a rough one, but other than that it sure had it's good moments and here are some of them:

1. fall-ish weather

2. a coffee date

3. surprise snail mail

4. kitty purrs next to my pillow

5. sushi for dinner

6. how to get away with murder

7. new hair

8. yarn goodies

9. thoughtful co-workers

10. planning a trip

I am looking forward to 3 days of relaxing and fun. We might go see a movie and have some popcorn, maybe a a short road trip somewhere nice, maybe a lazy day on the couch with a show and some knitting.

How has your week been? Hope it was a good one!

Fall Inspired Home Decor

I love decorating for fall. It makes a home so cozy and comfy and warm. Whenever I pop out those pumpkin scented candles I just feel "at home". This year I have been all into black and white hues. They feel so "clean". And I love a clean and simple look. But I cannot pass on pumpkin spice, cinnamon, apple, caramel, in fact any kind of fall-ish scented anything. HA

Fall makes me feel like being allowed to let go after a long and hot summer. Like I can finally catch my breath again. Does that make any sense? Fresh and crisp air. Changing colors. Fog in the valley on my morning commute. I just feel free. I am living for anything fall right now and I am so enjoying it!

What are some of the things you cannot do without during this time of the year?

How I Feel In 5 Words.

It's been a slow week so far. And I have been having trouble sleeping. Not sure why. It can't be the moon. Full moon usually keeps me up all night. But we don't have full moon. So, I am unsure of why it's been so hard for me to find rest. Maybe the change of seasons. Maybe the weather. Here's me hoping this week will go by fast, because the upcoming weekend will be a 3-day-weekend. There is a bank holiday next Monday here in Germany.

Here's how I am today:

1. Tired.

2. Anxious.

3. Hopeful.

4. Sanguine. (love that word)

5. Cuddly.

How are you today? Hope your week is a good one!

Welcome to the new look of The Brave Wanderer. I hope you like the new design my dear blog got today. There are still a few things that need to be done, but all in all the design is finished. Coffee Talk | Let's Have A Cup Of Coffee.

Let's have a cup of coffee
It's been a while since we had our last cup together, so I thought, why not sit down and talk about what's been going on lately and what's on our minds. Sometimes we just need to take a break to reflect on how life has been treating us. So, here are a few things I would totally want to talk about:

- Fall has officially started and I am so happy about my favorite time of the year.

- I went on a ride at the fair with Leonie and I felt so sick afterward. For hours….

- I will probably never go on a ride like that again. I guess it's a sign that I am getting older…

- My MIL's coffee is so strong that I can barely take it, although I am a coffee lover.

- I so enjoy long walks with the pup in the cool breeze of a fall evening.

- I had such an amazing weekend with the fam - great times were had.

- Parenting is a really tough job and can be very overwhelming at times.

- I have been knitting up a storm and cannot stop.

Ok, now it's your turn. What would you want to talk to me about?

Happy Monday, friends xxx

Happy Friday | V16.38

Happy Friday | V16.38

This week just flew by. I cannot believe it's already Friday, but I am really looking forward to the weekend. We've got some things planned. A trip to a nearby fair unless it rains, my girl needs new glasses and I need to go shopping for a birthday present. Although it will probably be a weekend for relaxing, I am looking forward to getting a few things off my list.

This week has been really good. I feel accomplished and got a lot done, both at work and also at home. I can't complain, so here are a few of my happy moments this week:

1. Winning concert tickets at work! Yay.

2. Watching the sunrise in the morning and the sunset at night.

3. Happy Mail.

4. A fresh new bottle of my favorite perfume.

5. The Path on Amazon Prime (has anyone seen it?)

6. Dinner with a girlfriend - good times

7. Getting a massage - HEAVENLY

8. Usher's "Crash" - enjoy

9. Puppy snores next to my bed

10. A bouquet of flowers just because.

I hope your week was wonderful as well - what were some of your HAPPY MOMENTS?

Life Lately

Life Lately
Now that we're back in the normal flow of things since school started last week (first day of school pictured above), life has become a bit more busy. But in a good way. Everybody has got their own busy back and the day just seems to run more smoothly.

School seems to be great so far - Leonie even brought home her first "A" of the school year - can we just keep them coming, please! haha No, but really, she's a great student, she just needs a little push here and there sometimes. But that's ok, after all she's still a kid and kids should be able to actually be kids, right! I mean, life will get harder at some point and I often find myself dreaming about those careless days way back when. So why not let her enjoy life like a kid should be enjoying life, as long as she takes care of her chores and becomes a decent person. What more can you ask for?

We've been enjoying the last days of summer, strolling through the city, taking the pup on long evening walks. I have been getting back into the swing of knitting and cannot stop. I have started another shawl, the one pictured above is ready to be blocked soon. And I am already planning the next project.

What have you been up to in the past few weeks? Anything exciting going on?

How I Feel In 5 Words.

How are you?

This week was off to a way better start than last one. The temps went down and we even had some much needed rain last weekend - finally it's starting to feel more like fall. I have to be careful and really enjoy these next few weeks, because my favorite season will be gone in no time.

I feel pretty great this week. I am a total different person when the temps are lower and I can wear a cardigan and maybe even a scarf! The sun came back out today, but the temps weren't anything close to last week's and I have a feeling they won't get back up that high this year anymore.

So, here's how I am today:

1. Grateful.

2. Understood.

3. Excited.

4. Wonderful.

5. Fortunate.

How much a week can change, right?!

Now, how are you today? I'd love to hear!

How To Relax After A Long Day

We all know that feeling of "the weight of the world on our shoulders" after a long day. Life is busy, calendars are filled to the brim and we often forget to slow down and take a break. However, it is important to spend some quality time outside of our tasks to improve our performance and to take care of our health!
When I get home after a long day at work, my work isn't done just yet. There is dinner to be cooked, laundry to be done, maybe some cleaning here and there, homework needs to be checked and so on and so forth.
And finally, once all my "tasks" have been taken care of and my to-do-list for the day is checked off, I allow myself to take some time off to enjoy some me-time just for ME. Here are some things I like to do to unwind.
- Put on comfy clothes.
- Listen to music over my headphones - just for myself
- Light a scented candle or turn on my oil diffuser
- Get my knitting out and knit a few rows
- Flip through the pages of a magazine
- Take the pup for an evening walk
- Drink a cup of tea - I enjoy trying new blends
- Sometimes I call a good friend just to catch up
- Maybe I'll pour myself a glass of wine
- During the summer I like going out into my garden
- Read a chapter of my new book
- Taking a nap can be super relaxing
There are so many different things you can do to relax when life gets tough. Maybe you enjoy taking a hot bath (me, not so much), or you find cleaning and tidying your home soothing. Whatever feels best for you, is best for you.
I would love to know some of the things you do to relax after a long day!

Happy Friday | V16.37

Happy Friday | V16.37

Oh man, this week's been a real struggle. First I had this horrible migraine, then the mister got sick with the stomach flu, school started and back to school shopping was in order (we get our supply lists on the first day of school) and then summer decided to come back full force giving us temps higher than during the entire summer. Phew…This Friday is really, REALLY welcome!

But these past few days have definitely had their happy moments and here are some of them:

1. Sleeping with open windows.

2. New sneakers for fall.

3. Purchasing concert tickets for my girl (Shawn Mendes).

4. Her reaction to it - happy tears might have been involved.

5. Caring co-workers.

6. A really successful employee performance review.

7. Puppy breath.

8. Popcorn.

9. Upgrading my Spotify account to premium (family version). finally

10. Diet coke (I know, I know, but sometimes I just need one).

And? How was your week? Was it a good one or did you struggle as well?

Fall Fashion Inspiration

Rose Gold

I love fall and I love fashion. Those of you who know me, know that I love my cardigans. I cannot wait to finally dress "properly" again. For me that means wearing different layers, booties, loafers or sneakers (I have recently re-fallen in love with the Internationalist from Nike) and scarves and, well - a cardigan.

I have been all about the darker reds, especially this maroon or burgundy, lately and who hasn't fallen for rose gold this past year. Gucci Bamboo is one of my newer go to scents for special occasions and in my opinion one can never go wrong with Chanel cosmetics.

My style is more of a subtle one - for me it's more in the details and the colder season is perfect for showing just that. Don't you think?

What has been one of your favorite colors fashion-wise lately? I'd love to know!

Happy Thursday - we're almost there! xxx

How I Feel In 5 Words.

How I Feel In 5 Words.

Can you believe it's Wednesday again? I mean, seriously, where is time going? It has been a very hot week here in southern Germany temp-wise. We've constantly been in the high 80's or low 90's in the past few weeks and I can clearly say that I am more than ready for fall temperatures! Puh-lease!

This week wasn't off to a very great start. Monday greeted me with a migraine. They seem to be haunting me lately. I blame it on the humid and hot weather though and have high hopes for less of them once fall finally arrives.

So, this is how I am today:

1. Better.

2. Relieved.

3. Recovered.

4. Hopeful.

5. Content.

I really hope your week was off to a better start than mine and that you are well!

Tell me: How Are You Today?

A Look Back On August 2016

A Look Back On August 2016
Our month of August can be labeled the month of travel. We went up north for 10 days of fun at the North Sea. We visited Das Klimahaus in Bremerhaven and we took a stroll through Cuxhaven. We rented a cute little house right by the sea and took long evening walks along the shore taking advantage of the tides and going Wattwandern

We enjoyed delicious food - either at wonderful restaurants or super stylish food trucks along the beach. We gave bread to the sea gulls and watched the sea lions relax on sandbanks. Unfortunately we never made it to the port before the shrimpers left to gather their daily fishing nets (way too early), but we did make it to be their when they returned and boy did we have some delicious crab biscuits. Guess there's no place to get them fresher than by the sea.

After returning from the North Sea we took a trip to Marburg for a few days. Just the man and I. We were invited to a seminar and stayed at this gorgeous hotel. The seminar lasted for 3 days and the last evening was spent at this awesome location in Dagobertshausen where we enjoyed a delicious dinner buffet with lots of amazing and inspiring people.

All in all August was a wonderful month. We spent so much quality time together as a family, we had tons of fun, great laughs and giggles (ok, maybe an argument here or there, but hey, we're only humans, right). We went to some shows, had cozy movie nights. Went on some rides at the fair (my poor tummy), had roasted almonds and cotton candy. I'm pretty sure we were customer of the month at our local sushi place as well as our favorite Italian ice cream parlor.

Yesterday school started again. Life seems to be rolling back into a "normal" mode which is a good thing. But boy am I looking forward to our next vacation already! We've got some major plans for next summer, but more on that some other time!

Now tell me, how was your August? Was it busy because school already started where you live? Or did you go on a fun trip as well?

Having A Hobby Is Good For Your Health

Having A Hobby Is Good For Your Health

Life is busy. Everyone has those things he needs to do. Mostly under a lot of pressure. Sometimes it just gets too much and so we all need something we can do simply for the sake of enjoyment. That's where the HOBBY comes in.

Having a hobby can be so beneficial for your life, your entire well-being and can turn you into a more positive person. It is scientifically proven that hobbies can reduce stress, because while focusing on a non-work-related task you are giving your brain something else to focus on which can lead to your worries and stress to just fade away.

Engaging in enjoyable activities during your down time can result in lower blood pressure, lower cortisol, lower waist circumference, lower depression levels and so on. All in all hobbies are good for your mind, body and soul.

I love knitting. Some of you might already know that of me. Walking into a yarn store makes me giggle with excitement ready to soak in all the beauty of the different yarns, the different colors, the tools and the anticipation of finding exactly the yarn I need for my next project.

I love the entire process from deciding what to knit to choosing the perfect pattern and yarn color I want to go with. Deciding on the yarn weight and therefor the needle size I will need and all the little steps that go into planning for a new knitting project.

Starting a fresh new skein of yarn has something magical to it and you don't want to ruin it. So at the beginning you might go a bit slower just to make sure you get it right from the get go. And whenever I find a mistake which I can't fix, I don't mind to unravel/ frog my piece to fix the mistake. Because even if no one can spot it, I will always know it's there and it will bother me forever (that's the perfectionist in me).

I enjoy the entire process of knitting. One row after the other sticking to a pattern and repeating it until it's finished. Sometimes I work on a few different projects, well, not all at the same time, but I have a few projects I pick up every now and then until they are finished. Sometimes I work on just one project, like right now - I am knitting a fall shawl, and focus on just that with my mind already pondering on what to knit next.

Do you have a hobby and if so, what do you love most about it?

Happy Friday | V16.36

How was your week? I hope it was a good one. Maybe it was stressful and busy and you had a lot on your plate, but I really hope it was a good one nonetheless! Mine was busy and stressful and I had a lot on my plate. It was also very hot here in Germany. But it was a good one and Friday is here, so no complaining, just happy faces!

Here are a few things that made my week even better:

1. Remembering Chicago.

2. Laughing.

3. Crying.

4. Movie night with my guys.

5. Coffee date.

6. Puppy kisses and kitty purrs.

7. Music.

8. Driving with the windows way down.

9. Wind in my hair.

10. The scent of fall in my nose.

It will be our last weekend before school starts next Monday, so we'll definitely make the best of it. Wishing you all a wonderful few days to enjoy, relax and have fun (unless you have to go to work).

Now, what were the things that made your week happy?

How I Feel In 5 Words.

How I Feel In 5 Words.

It's Wednesday and that's a good thing in itself already. This week I am feeling a lot better than last week and that's a good thing as well. It's also the last week of summer vacation here in southern Germany, so we've been busy with back to school shopping. Starting next Monday life will go back to normal, a normal schedule for all of us, which is also a good thing.

So, here's how I am today:

1. Excited.

2. Content.

3. Strenuous.

4. Inquisitive.

5. Understood.

What's been going on in your neck of the woods lately? And most importantly - How Are You today? I'd love to know!

Welcome September.

Welcome September.
September is here and I can hardly believe how 2016 just keeps on flying by. I cannot say I am mad about fall being so close. I'm eager to walk through a crisp autumn breeze, watch the changing colors everywhere, prepare my garden for the colder season and enjoy anything pumpkin I can get my hands on.

We have a few family birthdays coming up this month. I am planning a suprise trip to Berlin (finally) with the fam and the mister's company is having their annual family festival for all employees and their loved ones.

I have also been getting back into my knitting. During the hotter summer months I usually only knit a little if anything at all. But during my vacation and after a trip to my local yarn store I just couldn't resist the feeling of having yarn slip through my fingers any longer.

I am looking forward to a month filled with lots of fun, cooler temps and a whole lot of quality time with my crew enjoying everything nature will have to offer fall-wise.

What are you looking forward to this month?
