Happy Friday | V16.17

Happy Friday
We've experienced all kinds of weather in the past few days. We went from temps in the high 60's low 70's a week or two ago to massive snowfall on Tuesday morning, to sunshine Tuesday afternoon, freezing cold temps during the past few nights and icy winds during the day, to sunshine this Friday morning. I've got high hopes for sunshine during the coming weekend, but I am not so sure it will happen.
It's been a "normal" week and it had lots of happy moments - here are  a few:
1. Girl's Night out with Sushi
2. Movie date with my girl
3. Positive health news from a friend
4. Flipping through a magazine
5. Sunshine on my drive home
6. Compliments from co-workers
7. Awesome feedback from my boss
8. Planning a weekend getaway
9. Shopping for a new couch - again (hope we'll find something this time)
10. 13 year wedding anniversary today (we've been a couple for 23 years)
Ok, now you - tell me your happy moments of the week!

Linking up with these beauties! Lindsay, Krysten, Charlotte.

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Etsy Mother's Day Gift Guide

Here is a collection of things for Mother's Day I put together on Etsy. Not that I'm assuming on getting anything, really, and I actually don't fully approve of these kind of days where consumption plays such a big role for retailers and the real value got lost and put on the back burner, but I know my girl will probably get a little something for me and if I get real lucky the hubs might bring me some flowers - although he forgets most of the time.

It is a day to remember how awesome our moms are. Not that we ever forget, but this day is entirely dedicated to them. To show our appreciation of how self-sacrificing they are in our favor and how much they do to make things right for us.

I know my mom does and has always done. And I try to do the same for my girl. I try to be the best mom I can. I know I am not perfect, but I don't have to be. As long as I am there for her in any way possible to watch the wonderful person she is becoming.

What are your plans for Mother's Day? Are you a mom or not? Does your mom live near by or far away - how do you spend the day in her favor?

How I Feel In 5 Words.

Yesterday morning we woke up to a snow covered world here in southern Germay. It was surreal and crazy after the temps being in the high 60's and low 70's a week or 2 ago. The drive to work was insane - snow everywhere, the streets were icy and slippery and there were patches of black ice here and there.

The sun came out in the afternoon and in no time the snow was gone. But it has been freezing cold ever since - April sure has been showing us lots of changing weather this year. Everyone is looking forward to May and hoping for warmer temps and sunshine.

Today I am feeling:

1. Cold.

2. Sleepy.

3. Happy.

4. Ambitious.

5. Hungry.

I am looking forward to tomorrow - we've got a girl's night out planned and it will start off with some Chinese food. Can. Not. Wait.

Now tell me - How are You today? Is there still snow where you are or maybe you are at the beach dipping your toes into the water (if so, please don't rub it in too much…haha)?

Tuesday Thoughts | Life's Shenanigans

Life is crazy.
Life is crazy. Time flies. Like really, it flies. One day after the other. One week follows the other. A month passes by on a whim. Year after year. We grow older. Maybe wiser. We grow up. Learn. Make mistakes. Do it better the next time. And so on and so forth. Crazy. Kind of. Normal you say? Sure. Normal, too.

Here in Germany Mother's Day is on May 8th. It's a Sunday. May 8th will also mark the 13th birthday of Leonie, my daughter. 13! Wait, what?! 13!!! Thinking about it makes it seem a little unreal. Wasn't she just a toddler. 5 years old when we moved to Chicago. Such a sweet little girl, with soft cheeks and on her tippy toes. Playing Barbies with her friends Kayla and Meghan. Oh, how I miss those days!

Sometimes I wish I could turn back time and take in all of those moments just one more time. Soak them up and put them in a jar with a tightly fastened lid, so nothing can spill out. I would try to enjoy them more than the first time around. Life is so busy and sometimes stressful that we forget to live in the moment. Which might lead to not fully appreciating every moment. Normal you say? Sure. Normal, too.

We should all make it a habit to try and live in a certain moment at least once a day. No matter if you are a parent or not - any moment will do. Any moment that feels worthy to remember. Live it, breathe it in and keep it there, right there in your heart.

I lived in the moment driving home from work today with loud music on (Beyoncé - Irreplaceable) with not a care in the world in that special moment!

What's the last moment you can truly remember which was special to you?

What's On My Needles - inspired by Westknits.

Inspired by Westknits
I've been knitting up a storm lately and have a few projects in the making - mostly summer shawls. Some of them are finished and waiting to be blocked. One of them I almost finished last week and ran out of yarn on the last few rows, so I had to order another skein and am now impatiently awaiting it's arrival.

I just had to cast on for a new project since I brought home a few skeins from my trip to the yarn store when I ordered said skein mentioned above - a knitter can hardly leave a yarn store without a purchase, all you knitters and crocheters will understand me.

Inspired by a lot of knitting projects popping up in my IG feed - mostly from Westknits - I wanted to knit up a freestyle shawl with a mixture of different yarn bases and colors. I am not following a specific pattern, but am knitting as I go, making up a pattern during the process.

I love knitting with Lana Grossa yarn, they have such a wonderful variety of yarns and our local yarn store has an entire wall of their store dedicated to them. How could I not buy any of those beautiful skeins? The upper left skein is a natural bamboo yarn I got at the Schoppel outlet store I went to a few weeks ago and will be headed to next week to get a few more yarn goodies and to purchase some for a dear friend.

Tell me, are you a knitter and if so, what are you currently working on? And if you don't knit - do you have another craft that inspires you?

Happy Friday | V16.16

Another week has come and gone and I am glad the work part is over even though I only had 2 days a the office this week. Pink eye is super clingy this time and it hasn't completely vanished, yet. Working in front of the computer screen under artificial light all day long was really exhausting for my eyes these past 2 days, so I am glad to give them and myself a much needed break. Hoping the weekend will finally make pinky leave for good.

It's been a short work week and it sure had it's happy moments nonetheless:

1. Knitting on my days at home.

2. Gone Girl the movie - finally watched it after reading the book.

3. Ice cream date.

4. Leonie got a pixie cut. She was so brave.

5. Long walks with the pup in the spring sun.

6. Socializing at work.

7. A trip to the nursery for a tree for our front yard.

8. Connecting with new bloggers.

9. A massage.

10. Mani/ pedi fun.

Now it's your turn - how was your week and what were your happy moments?

Life Lately | Here In Southern Germany

https://www.instagram.com/thebravewanderer/
If you follow me on Instagram you've probably seen most of these pics somewhere in your feed in the past few weeks. Or maybe you haven't because of IG's new algorithm. I chose not to encourage my dear followers to turn on notifications as I did not turn them on for any of the wonderful accounts I follow, because I do not want notifications popping up on my phone every second or so and in return I don't ask anyone to endure that from my side.

So, I guess we just see whatever we choose to see. I check on my fave accounts from time to time anyway, so I don't miss anything I feel isn't worth missing. I might do a little round up of IG accounts I enjoy in the near future. I love when other bloggers do that, because I love finding inspiration in other IGer's photos.

What are some of your favorite Instagram accounts? And, in case I am not following yours yet, please leave a link in the comments, so I can hop over!

How I Feel In 5 Words.

So, the pink eye actually decided to stick around a little longer, even though I used antibiotic eye drops. I had to revisit my doc who sent me to an oculist to make sure it wasn't a viral thing. Thankfully it's not. I got a prescription for different eye drops which I have been taking for 2 days now and it seems as though I am finally really on the mend.

Now that I don't look like a vampire eye-wise any longer and the pain and itching is fading, I feel so much better. I am confident to be back to my old self in no time and can finally head back to work since I am no longer contagious (my co-worker was afraid to get t as well).

Today I am:

1. Hopeful

2. Confident

3. Happy

4. Excited

5. Rested

How has your week been so far and most importantly HOW ARE YOU?

Things I Do To Unwind.

Things I Do To Unwind.

Life is busy and stressful. Most of the time we rush from one thing to another ending the day in exhaustion. We ask too much of ourselves, always demanding to be on top of things. I know I do. And we keep telling ourselves that it's just the way it is and keep goingBut what if we keep going and going and going? One day our body might just shut down. I have read about it. I have heard about it and lately I have seen it happen to a few people I know. Without a warning. Just like that.

If you keep demanding 100 % and even more of yourself without allowing your body, mind and soul to take a break and just be, you might end up destroying yourself without even noticing. It is important to slow down every now and then. We need to make time and space for me-time to focus on ourselves and the little messages and signs our body is sending.

After experiencing a few health issues due to stress over the past few years, I have developed a habit of trying to take time for myself in order to unwind and let go. Most of the things are very simple and easy to implement in my day-to-day:

Meditation
I try to meditate whenever I feel that things are getting too much. I look for a silent spot preferably by an open window to breathe in fresh air and then I take 5 minutes to delve into my thoughts. This really helps me and I urge you to try it for yourself.

Nature
Sometimes I just need quiet and space. That's when I take the pup and go for a walk. The silence of nature and wind blowing through my hair give me the distance to "reality" I need in that exact moment and help me gain back power to get through the rest of the day.

Music
Doesn't it just have the power to take you to a far away place in your thoughts and help you forget the moment so you can just be. Never underestimate the power of music, even if it only lasts as long as the song is playing.

Drive
Do you ever feel the urge to "escape" a moment? I sure do. And whenever that happens I grab my keys, get into the car, turn on the music (there it is again) and take a short trip somewhere. Sometimes 15 minutes is all it takes to return revived.

Cook
I love cooking from scratch. And I love the whole process of looking up a recipe, shopping for the ingredients (although I despise grocery shopping in general), prepping everything and then cooking a delicious meal for my loves. There is something so relaxing to it (not the doing the dishes part though - haha - the mister does them for me most of the time).

Knit
If you know me, you know I knit. There is never a time where I am not working on at least 2 projects at the same time. And there is at least one unfinished project waiting somewhere to be picked up again and made whole. Knitting is my most important way of unwinding. I just love the clicking sound of my needles, I enjoy the repetitions of a pattern, and I so love seeing the piece I am working on come together.

There are several other ways to unwind. Read a book for example would be a good one, although I never have the time to read - I need my hands for knitting, so I prefer listening to audio books. Gardening is another big one as soon as the weather allows - I love my garden and tending to it. I guess the list could go on and on. And we all probably have this one thing we love doing most to unwind and which helps us relax the most.

I would love to hear what you do to unwind on a stressful day?

Love Letter To Yourself

Love Letter To Yourself

We are all being put into boxes of how we are supposed to be. By society, by people and by ourselves. There is so much pressure put on us. Mostly by ourselves, because we believe we need to fulfil the "requirements" that have been laid out for us. We think we need to fit into the boxes that have been designed by others in order to be accepted and successful.

A look into the mirror can be a hurtful thing when you believe what they say is beautiful and you think you aren't. You focus on all the little "faults" they told you are wrong and need to be removed. You dissect every part of your being to find out what is wrong with you.

But let me tell you this:

There is nothing wrong with you! You are perfect and beautiful just the way you are!

We are who we are and that is perfection in itself. We were meant to be the person we are with all its imperfections and "flaws". Society and people, but mostly we ourselves have to finally accept that there are millions of ways of being perfect and beautiful! No matter where we come from, how we look or what we do.

Take the time to think about the things you love about yourself. Make a list of those things. Write them down. Write a letter to yourself about all the things you adore about you. Write a love letter to yourself including all positive attributes about you.

I am sure you will find way more aspects you like than things you don't. And whenever you feel you aren't enough, go back and read that letter out loud to yourself to remind you how amazing you are.

Society and its outlook on how one should be sucks and you shouldn't waste your time fretting about the things that don't seem perfect about yourself - instead shout it out to everyone how amazingly wonderful you are in every way possible!

Don't let others define who you should be - be the definition of your own self!

Happy Friday | V16.15

Being sick at home is no fun, we all know that. But my pinkeye seems to be getting better thanks to the eye drops I am taking. Thank goodness I don't have the flu with a fever and all. I am only a bit congested, but otherwise I am feeling a lot better.

Whenever I am sick at home, I try to make the best of the time I am given. So, I spent the day yesterday doing a few little chores at home (I can't just sit around doing nothing), I got in some knitting (currently working on another summer shawl) and going on a walk in the sun with my sweet pup.

Yesterday I received the wonderful news of my niece giving birth to a healthy baby girl, Elin Mathilda was born on April 14th at 11:49 am - so happy for them! Cannot wait to meet her!

Here are 10 of my happy moments of this past week:

1. Becoming an aunt again

2. Knitting

3. Netflix

4. Flipping through a magazine

5. Tulips

6. Sunshine

7. Hugs from my girl

8. Straight A math test result

9. New coloring pens

Things I Love Thursday | COLORS

COLORFUL

COLORFUL by chrissyza

Sometimes all you need is a little color in your life to put a smile on your face. If you are like me, a new pack of coloring pens gives you a great deal of satisfaction. I even go so far as to not wanting to open them, so they stay all shiny and new…until I do open them. haha

So, yeah, the doctor said it was pinkeye. And boy it really is a painful thing. It hurts, it burns and it itches. I feel the desire to scratch my eye, but I don't, because the doctor said so and because I don't want to spread the germs around the house. I have been constantly washing my hands in the past 2 days, so pinkeye stays with me and doesn't take over the whole family.

I got a prescription of antibiotic eyedrops which I have to apply every hour - they burn, but I think they are already helping ease the pain a bit. So, enough of the whining. Sorry. But sometimes it just feel good to whine, right?

How are you? Hope you aren't sick! This year has been awful with all the sickness going around. It seems like someone at the office is always missing due to some kind of illness - it really is time for warmer weather!

How I Feel In 5 Words.

How are you?

I will come straight to the point, I think I have pink eye. It started yesterday at work. I suddenly began to feel unwell. My throat was itchy and hurt. I had to constantly sneeze and I felt this cough developing. When I got home I had shivers down my spine in one minute and in the next this big heatwave came crawling up my body. We had dinner and then I started feeling this pain in my left eye which was all red.

So, I will be off to the doctor's office in a while to see what he has to say. Needless to say that I am not feeling so great today:

1. Hot.

2. Congested.

3. Weak.

4. Tired.

5. Cold.

I don't know what it is this year. Sickness has been very present everywhere. A lot of my co-workers have been at home with the flu on and off. Until now I somehow made it through without having to call in for more than a day, but it seems my time has come and I just need some rest.

I hope you are all well! How are you feeling today?

Things That Are On My Mind Today.

Things That Are On My Mind Today.

Tuesdays don't really have a great reputation. They are just the day after Monday, which means a long week still lies ahead and they are the day before Wednesday. Wednesdays on the other hand mean we are halfway there and that makes them a lot more attractive, right. Kinda sad.

Why is it that we so long for the weekends that come and go on a whim? Why don't we try to make the best of everyday. Why aren't we glad about every new day we get to live. Every new day is a new chance to accomplish great things, to enjoy time with friends and family. A new day at work means money for your loved ones, to put food on the table and clothes on your kids, a roof over your head and water to drink. A day at work means you are able to socialize, connect with others. A quick talk in the hallway, fun laughs during lunch break, maybe a compliment about your new shoes or your hair from a colleague which lifts you up.

A new day means you are alive and you have the chance to do something meaningful. Or you get to take the day off and just be you. Time wisely spent is time you will never forget and it doesn't matter what day it is as long as you are happy and you are true and have people around you who care.

Don't you think? Let's try to love every new day equally - after all - every new day is a new day of our lives!

Happy Tuesday xxx

How Do You Feel About Copycats?

Copycat, copying,

How do you feel when you catch someone copying something you did? No matter what it is...something that person knows from you. Something that person only knows from you. He saw it and liked it and copied it. Just like that. No questions asked?

The Internet is full of copycats. I mean you see something on a webpage, you like it and adapt your style accordingly. And that's ok. We all learn. We see things that we like and that we want. So we try to do it the same or in a similar way. We've all been there and we've all done it. And that's cool

I just think it's important to credit the person you got the idea from. At least that's what I do. In my eyes it has something to do with courtesy. Just like linking a photo that's not yours. Of yourse making sure it's ok to copy it in the first place. Because most things can't just be copied and used - you might get into trouble for it - but that's another topic. All I would like to add is "educate yourself about it", there are several websites where you are allowed to copy pictures.

Falsely accusing someone of being a copycat is not cool. Believe it or not, sometimes more than one person can have the same or a similar idea and do something someone else has done before without knowing about it. Does this make any sense at all? I mean how can someone assume he is the only clever person with great ideas?

I have been accused of copying someone else's work a few yeas ago. Which I hadn't. 100% not! Nevertheless, an entire shitstorm broke down on me on twitter. A "girl gang", that's how I am going to call them, tweeted their sweet behinds off, lamenting about how I (they called me all sorts of things I do not wish to repeat, because my daughter reads my blog occasionally) had the nerve to effing copy one of the gang's members work.

They had checked my entire social media links, which by the way can be found on the right side bar, over there, to trace back the origin of said piece of work I had made. It was a french knot embroidery hoop I had made and showcased and had gotten tons of positive feedback on, even from on of the biggest stitchers out there and that's what probably got the ball rolling.

Well, long story short - it didn't feel good at all. My pulse raced with rage and I felt so helpless at the time. I even took down the pic at first to make it all go away, but then figured that I would not let them win and put it back up - I think it's still there way back in my IG feed.

However I must say, that now after 6 years of blogging I feel kind of proud when I see others edit their pics in the same or a similar way I do. Because it's like a compliment to me. It means they like what I do and that gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

What about you? How do you feel about copycats? And have you ever been falsely accused of copying something?

Another week is in the books and I am glad it's almost the weekend. Leonie, I and our furry kids were alone at home this past week as the mister was at a trade show workwise. It's been a busy week at home and at work and all I am looking forward to is sleeping in tomorrow, because managing it all on my own called for very early mornings (I got up at 5:15 am) in the past few days.

But, nonetheless my week did include lots of happy moments - here are a few:

1. Quality time with my girl.

2. Spring like weather.

3. Watching the sunrise on my way to work.

4. Laughs with co-workers.

5. Knitting whilst watching the new season of Grey's.

6. Girl's night out - tonight!

7. A trip to the Hardware store for some home improvements.

8. Windows down a bit.

9. Berry Parfait and blueberry muffins.

10. A phone call from Chicago.

Now tell me a few of your happy moments this week? I'd love to hear!

Don't Forget To Press Pause.

It's The Little Things

Life is busy as it is and sometimes we forget to live in the moment. To stop and look around and take it all in. That exact moment. No matter where you are and what you are doing. Stop and look around you. Who is with you? Do you like where you are and who you are with? What are you doing?

Maybe you are spending time with your family or friends. But you aren't really 100% there. Your throughts might have wandered off to "what should I make for dinner", or "did I turn on the laundry", or "I should really deep clean the carpets" or anything like that.

You don't even realize that you are not fully there, enjoying the moment and taking it all in. Although this moment, right there and then is so important.

And do you know why?

Because it will never return and one day you might look back and regret not taking the time to press pause!

So, don't forget to take a break from the daily hassle to take it all in!

Things I Am Looking Forward To This Month.

Things I Am Looking Forward To This Month
April is here which means spring weather is right around the corner. We've had a few really warm days this past week and it looks as though they will be more frequent in the near future. I love seeing nature coming back to life. Little leaves and buds developing on bushes and shrubs. Plants I thought hadn't lasted the winter are showing green and I couldn't be more happy about it.

I really love this time of year - winter lies behind us and nature is starting to turn green again. People suddenly start re-appearing outside, spending time in the fresh crisp air, soaking up all the sunshine they possibly can.

Here are some things I am looking forward this month:

- Lots of sunshine.

- Gardening and installing a new fence.

- Riding our bikes.

- Italian ice cream.

- Walks with the pup through the green fields.

- The smell of freshly cut grass.

- Sitting on the patio.

- Planting lots of lavender. Oh, I can already smell it.

- Open car windows.

- Wearing my sunglasses - I just got a new pair.

- Sandal weather.

- Painted toe nails.

- Hanging the laundry outside to dry. Love the scent of that!

- Renting a convertible just because.

I guess it's safe to say that I am really excited about April. I hope it will be a wonderful month and cannot wait to see what it will bring.

What are you most excited about this month?

Happy Tuesday, everyone xxx

Life lately and Plans for a New Feature

Life lately
Weekends come and go and before we know it, we're back to the daily grind on a Monday morning. Oddly everyone functions more or less the way they are supposed to. Somehow a bit remote-controlled as we start into yet another new week.

Spring break here in southern Germany is over, so it will be extra difficult to get out of bed at 6 am after 1.5 weeks off. Mondays after a break are always the worst and make for a good night's sleep from Monday to Tuesday.

Life has been treating us good lately. We were able to spend lots of quality time together, going swimming, riding our bikes to get the first ice cream cone of the year, a shopping spree for spring clothes and a movie night after indulging in some yummy sushi and the Lego movie on Netflix.

Sushi
Leonie and I have this sushi place we always go to when we hit town and this time we tried their amazingly delicious appetizer sweet potato fries - boy were they good! I have some sweet potatoes sitting in my pantry and guess what they will end up being eaten as!?

Ludwig van Beethoven once worked here
On Friday Leonie and I went to our little town Bad Mergentheim to run a few errands. And while we were walking by the castle which is situated alongside the main shopping street, I suddenly had the urge to snap photos. Leonie told me I was behaving like one of the many tourists we have here every year. But, isn't it funny how we always take our surroundings for granted. Not really taking the time to enjoy them. I mean, other people come here for their vacation because we live in such a beautiful and historic place.

For instance, see that entryway of a house on the photo above. It belongs to a very old building in which at some point Ludwig van Beethoven was to work. And every time we go to town, we have to walk past this building. Never before had I really noticed the beauty of it and that Mr. Beethoven was there in 1791.

So, my goal for the future is to look at my surroundings and to enjoy them more. I don't want to keep on taking them for granted. And, I want to make it a rule to take more pictures of the places I go. Not only of the food I eat or the coffee I had, but of the streets, the buildings, the people and everything I feel needs to be shared. And then I will share it all with you. That way I can show you the beauty of my country. Which means there will be a new feature about Germany on TBW very soon.

Sound like a plan?

Wishing you all a wonderful Monday.

Yay, we finally made it to the end of the week. And wouldn't you know it - the weather was so wonderful throughout the entire week full of sunshine and now that the weekend is here, it's raining. Well, we'll just have to make the best of it, right?

It's been a short work week, but due to the fact that my co-worker had to call in sick and I am her substitute, work was a lot and extra hours were made, so I think I really deserve the break of a weekend.

This week did however have ist happy moments, here are 10 of them:

1. dentist's appointment went well - no cavities or such

2. a trip to the mall with my girl
